The London based painter Frances Wilks developed an obsession for the world of cars and the color red. In a very incarnated figurative style, she sketches portraits, typical scenes, and settings, or details of the world of Formula 1. Wilks shows us that one can always hijack the codes of what we could consider masculine archetypes (like the world of Formula 1) and play with them.
Reminiscent of Ed Ruscha’s work, this photograph of an empty gas station is part of the car culture which is very important in America.
